The SLO County Jazz Federation was privileged to showcase the 2019 winners of the Young Jazz Scholarship Program in concert on Sunday March 10 at 4 p.m. at Unity Concert Hall (1130 Orcutt Road, SLO). This program, started in 1983, awards scholarships to talented and deserving students from local schools in an effort to further musical development and to keep the jazz tradition alive. This year’s recipients are brothers Kadin and Tarek Hariri (Arroyo Grande High School), Michael Lanier (San Luis Obispo High School) and Cuesta College’s Luke Gibson, Noah Nelson and Gillian Piper. They were accompanied by Adam Levine on guitar, Ken Hustad on bass and Jim Stromberg on drums. The concert is sponsored by the Matt Taylor Memorial Scholarship Fund.
