The San Luis Obispo County Jazz Federation was privileged to showcase the 2024 winners of our “Young Jazz” music scholarships on Sunday March 19 at 4pm at Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church in San Luis Obispo. The student musicians played individual and group selections, accompanied by Gary Drysdale on guitar, Ken Hustad on bass and Darrell Voss on drums. This program, started in 1984, awards scholarships to talented and deserving students from local high schools and colleges in an effort to further musical development and to keep the jazz tradition alive. The scholarships are funded by the Jazz Federation through donations. The award winners this year are Skylar Cappelli, Spencer Hafley, Miles Kennedy, Ryan Nolan, Vanessa Rivera and Wyatt Willard.
